Sport for all

Sport for all

All our activities are overseen by young men and women who are pursuing sport as a career. Offering a winning combination of enthusiasm and experience, our co-ordinators and coaches are dedicated to ensuring that everyone gets the most from whatever activities they decide to partake in – and above all, that Bondholders and their children have a good time!

Fitness – with a dash of Zsolt

De facto leader of the Activity Clubs is Zsolt Nagy. No stranger to HPB sites, this all-round action man was for seven years a competitive athlete and tennis player, until injury foreshortened his career.

Turning his attention to fitness coaching and sports training, Hungarian Zsolt wasted no time in gaining the appropriate qualifications. The 36-year-old holds both a sports science degree and ATP accreditation, and is the PTR-qualified tennis instructor at the prestigious St Julians Club in Kent.

So, what does this self-confessed sports nut have in store for our Bondholders and their kids?

“First and foremost, for the adults – I want them to have fun,” he says. “Of course, we’re talking about exercise, and it should be a bit strenuous if it’s to do any good – you should need to catch your breath afterwards. But in terms of the activities we’re offering, and their intensity, I will tailor any programme to suit whoever attends.

“I can promise three things: you’ll have a great time; you’ll know you’ve done it; and you’ll go away with a spring in your step.”

Children, of course, need no encouragement to run, jump, swim or swing a tennis racket. “All our Activity Club team love working with the kids,” says Zsolt. “Children have so much natural energy anyway – they’re the ones keeping us on our toes, not the other way round! But really all we do is channel it a bit; we make it fun, but add a little bit of structure and a smidgen of competition.

“The most rewarding aspect from our point of view is watching them make new friends during the course of their holidays,” he adds. “Of course they come from all over the UK; but we hope that at least in some instances they live close enough to each other for the new friendships to continue once they get home.

“And if not – well, there’s always next year’s Activity Clubs!”
