A step back in time
The lighting of the Duloe beacon, at 10pm on Monday 4th June, saw the Bondholders in attendance toasting Her Majesty’s continued good health with a draught of the local cider. Tuesday, however, provided the main event – a traditional afternoon garden party, with homemade cakes, cream teas, trifle, an endless supply of tea and – for those as wanted it – more of the cider! For those in the mood to work off such a sumptuous repast, the site organised numerous old-fashioned races – egg-and-spoon, and a sack race – and lots of other family games.
“There’s nothing wrong with modernity,” commented site manager Michelle Bushby as she surveyed the happy scene. “But an event like this is a great chance to stop the clock for a bit and step back into a kinder, gentler age.”
A sentiment with which all the lucky Bondholders and their families at Duloe seemed to heartily agree!
