Praia da Cova Redonda Beach in the Algarve
Where better to go for a beach holiday than the spectacular Algarve along Portugal’s south coast?
Having been voted Europe’s Leading Beach Destination 2016 (and nominated again for 2017), the Algarve coastline is one of the best locations for a relaxing holiday. Characterised by a rugged coastline that has been carved into picturesque cliffs and peaceful bays by the Atlantic Ocean, the coastline along this stretch of the country is particularly special.
At Rocha Brava you are exceptionally well placed to take advantage of a number of the local sandy sun traps. The Praia da Cova Redonda is about a 20 minute drive away in Alporchinhos, Lagoa and has previously been named on the European Best Destinations List as one of the best beaches.
Nestled into a small bay on the south coast, the Praia da Cova has everything you could want from a beach; surrounded on most sides by the protective cliffs, this little bay is really sheltered with generally calm waters and fine white sand stretching to the water’s edge.
The beach looks out over incredible, endless turquoise blue and is backed by the dramatic uneven cliff face. Interesting rock formations have been carved by the sea and years of erosion have created nooks and crannies and furrows in the rocks, perfect for exploring.
Access to the beach is gained from above, so you have to make your way down a set of steps that gently descend the cliff and are bordered by the greenery of pine trees, evergreens and gorse. It has a lovely remote feel to it and the soft sand at the bottom is interrupted by outcroppings of golden rocks. It is a truly stunning place to spend the day.
You’ll have to make your way down the steps from the roads above and the town itself is about a 15 minute drive from Rocha Brava.
