Ivy House, Cumbria, England

Dating back to the 18th Century, this lovely dark green building spent its previous life as both a school building and a vicarage. Now, in a fantastic position in the village of Braithwaite, at the foot of Whinlatter Forest Park and just a short distance from the beautiful lakes of Bassenthwaite and Derwentwater, Ivy house is a welcoming hotel. Thirteen spacious en-suite bedrooms are each comfortably furnished with careful details.

The hotel has a fantastic restaurant on the first floor and a ground-floor bar as well; the communal areas downstairs feature an open fire and original timber beams which add to the overall charm. The luxury bedrooms will provide that perfect night's sleep, with big comfortable beds for well-earned relaxation after a day roaming the fells and lakes or exploring nearby Keswick. Both double and twin rooms are available, so whether it's a romantic retreat or a simple get-away with a friend or family member, you'll be guaranteed a good night's sleep.

Facilities/equipment

Each room is equipped with a television and DVD player for those quiet evenings in; and just over at Braithwaite Court is a free DVD library you can access, so you'll be spoilt for choice. Rooms are provided with tea-making facilities and flasks too, for walking, and although there are no cooking facilities in the rooms, the first-floor restaurant serves breakfasts as well as evening meals. The bar downstairs is a great place to chat to the locals and get some pointers as to where to go and what to do in the region. So you have all you need for a relaxing holiday in the stunning Lake District.
