Planning ahead for wonderful holidays

Planning ahead for wonderful holidays

We’ve lived abroad a lot – six years in Hong Kong, a year in the US and five years in Paris. We’ve been back in the UK, in Bath, since 2006.

I had never heard of the Holiday Property Bond until we were approached in 2008 (by another owner) about our château apartment in Château de Charras as a possible Tenancy property. It took a while to understand what HPB was – I thought the company wanted to buy our apartment!

The HPB Tenancy programme has served us well and we are very pleased indeed; the apartment seems to be well liked.

On becoming part of the Tenancy programme we investigated HPB further and kept looking for the catch – but we couldn’t really find one! In October 2008 we invested and we haven’t looked back.

After a “toe-in-the-water” trip to St Brides Castle, Pembrokeshire, in January 2009 – Holiday Points-free – the first “proper” holiday we booked was early July 2009 in Madeira. There was a Points-free option for a two-bedroom property, so we were able to save our Points and take friends with us for a wonderful Points-free holiday. To be honest, since then we’ve had trouble spending our Points! But between January 2009 and July 2010 we have enjoyed eight HPB holidays, five of them Points-free.

I tell everyone how good it is, how helpful the staff are and how, in these consumerist days, when it seems most companies are solely focused on “making as much money as possible out of the punters”, it is refreshing to find a business built on old-fashioned values, where people matter.

I am interested in sustainability and would like to encourage more consideration in this area, but find it hard to fault HPB.

Another big plus is that our family and friends can holiday with HPB. I expect our sons will take advantage of Points-free holidays.

My husband did keep ribbing me for going on about HPB, but as we’ve now used up all our Points until Oct 2012 I keep quiet! Less HPB chat from me; less ribbing from him; and lots of wonderful holidays to look forward to. As they say: result!

I work at the University of Bath; my husband, Ian, is managing director of a Swiss-German packaging company, and travels a fair bit. We have three sons.
