The Carian trail

In conjuction with the Chamber of commerce and Industry this project was sponsored in 2012 by GEKA, the South Aegean Development Agency. The Carian trail/Karia Yolu officially opened up for all the walks for everyone in February 2013.

Up to date there are over 800km of this trail divided into 46 stages, 220 sign posts showing the directions with over 33,000 waymarks to help and direct you through the walks.

Caria was the region of south-west Asia Minor between todays Meander ‘Meandros’ and Dalaman ‘Indos’ rivers.

The exact roots of the Carian date back to the 2nd millennium from Egyptian and Hittite sources naming this region as ‘Karakisa’ or ‘Karkisa’. The exact roots have not been established and they are still in discussion.
