You must try this incredible dessert bar in Norwich

You can’t be 20 minutes from Norwich, and not go in to the city. The vibrant, cultural city centre draws people from far and wide. It has a little something for everyone, with great shopping, fantastic eateries, loads of history and lots to see and do.

If you are a cake fan then you have to get yourself to Figbar. It’s an incredible little café, right in the heart of town and has beautifully cooked fresh treats, pastries and desserts every day.

Jaime and Stephanie opened their little empire back in the summer of 2016 and it has only flourished since then. Jaime is a chef by trade and has a lot of experience, running, co-founding and opening various establishments prior to this one, and has previously worked with some huge names such as Yotam Ottolenghi and Gordon Ramsay.

Being the skilled pastry chef that he is, it made sense to open a café that focusses almost entirely on dessert. Every day, beautiful fresh sweet treats are made and baked in store. You’ll have a fantastic selection of cakes, desserts with freshly made ice cream, pastries and a few savoury bites at lunch time too. The kitchen is all open plan and located behind the till area, so it’s great to be able to see the team hard at work while you’re in there enjoying your food.

Jaime and Stephanie’s little establishment is set out like a café where you can sit with your dessert and a cup of something delicious, or you can grab something yummy to go. Their cakes and pastries, snacks and puddings, are arranged along the bar at the back of the shop so you can see what you fancy. I will warn you though – it’s very hard to choose just one thing!

Figbar is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10.00am and from Thursday to Saturday it is open until 10.00pm, so you can venture there after dinner. You’ll find it on St. John, Maddermarket (take a look on the map here). Thanks to its relaxed vibe and late opening times, Figbar is a wonderful place for any occasion: coffee and cake with a friend; a date; or maybe an after-dinner treat?

Figbar also has a little stand on Norwich’s historic market. It sells all the favourites like jaffa cakes, brownies and funfetti mini-cakes along with many more. Deliveries happen fresh from the Figbar kitchen each morning and the stand is generally open from 10am – 3pm, Tuesday- Saturday.

Because everything is baked or made fresh in the kitchen each day, it is all subject to availability (and once it’s gone it’s gone!). The assortment of goodies does change daily and varies with the season, but there are a few sweet treats and savoury favourites that are likely to be on the menu.

Take a look at the website here to find out more and see what they’ve got!
