Rediscovering Constant, 20 years on
When we booked our holiday for Constant, we had not appreciated it was 20 years since we had been there – and what changes we would find!
20 years ago, the long approach road was unmade, and so we arrived covered in white dust. But when we saw Constant in the development process, our spirits were immediately lifted.
Our charming accommodation, Number 32, Pécharmant , had all the facilities and furnishings we could have wished. Although much building was happening around us it did not spoil our enjoyment. There was just one open-air swimming pool and the tennis courts were being constructed. We could only imagine the delightful village it was to become.
This September, we visited again. There is now an impressive mosaic site plan at the entrance to Constant. To our surprise, we found we had booked the same property as before. Dominique, the manager, who has been there throughout all its development, greeted us. Although Constant has changed, she has not! She remains as charming, enthusiastic, and informative as ever… and great fun too!
The village now has 60 cottages and apartments. In addition there are two outdoor swimming pools and one indoor pool with a leisure complex, two tennis courts, a games room and an on-site restaurant. Although these facilities are now available, Constant remains tranquil and unspoilt. The views across the Périgord countryside are as stunning as ever. We knew, from the first night, that we were starting a great week again.
Dominique asked us why we had left it so long before revisiting. Where had the years gone? We could only explain it by the fact that we have visited so many other great HPB sites in the meantime, and also our children and five grandchildren are enjoying our HPB hospitality too!
One thing’s for sure; it will not be another 20 years before we visit again!
